Andrew S. Shillira, age 98 of Fairfield, beloved husband of late Alexandra (Budi) Shillira, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 3rd, 2024.
Andrew was born and raised in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, son of the late Spiro and Duminica Caramitro Shillira, coming to the Bridgeport and then Fairfield where he lived most of his life. Mr. Shillira was a United States Naval Veteran, serving his country with pride in both WWII and the Korean War. He later worked as a driver for the Rheingold Brewery Co. and retired from Sturm Ruger. Andy was a devoted and longtime member of the St. Dimitrie Orthodox Church. He was also an avid fan of horse racing.
He is survived by his sister, Viorika Nicas of Bridgeport. Uncle Andy leaves behind nieces and nephews Patrick Nicas, Deborah Bourdeau (James), Diane Reach (Chuck), Doina Chiacu (Ron Kampeas), and Ana Chiacu. He also leaves behind grandnephews and nieces James and Matthew Bourdeau, Kristina Bourdeau, Charlie Reach (Alex), Samuel Reach, Katherine Reach, Nicholas and Nathaniel Kampeas. He was pre-deceased by his brother George Shillira and his wife Alexandra.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 12th at 12:00 pm directly at St. Dimitrie Orthodox Church, 504 Sport Hill Rd., Easton with the Rev. Father George M. Coca officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 am until the time of service. Military honors will follow the Church Service. Burial will be held in the Shillira family plot in St. John Cemetery in Woonsocket on Wednesday at 1 pm.
