Deshawn Reginald Berry

Deshawn Reginald Berry, age 29, of Pooler, Georgia, formerly of Bridgeport, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 16, 2026. Born in Bridgeport, son of the late Reginald Berry and Lisa Barnum, Deshawn had been a Bridgeport resident before moving to Georgia for work several months ago.

He worked as a manager for the FedEx Corporation. In the few months that Deshawn spent in Georgia, he came to love and embrace life down there; crocodiles and all. An aspiring DJ, he truly enjoyed making music mixes, loved shopping for the latest trends, and more than anything, cherished the times spent with his family and friends. Deshawn will be lovingly remembered as the "Best Hugger" in the family. 

Deshawn is survived by his mother, Lisa Barnum, and grandmother, Kathleen Barnum; his siblings, Shontai Berry, Annessa Newkirk, and Jakola Newkirk; his brother, Regis Newkirk and wife Shaday; his sister, Alyssa Barnum and her fiancé, Steven Weinhaus; and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Deshawn also leaves behind one of his dearest childhood friends, Judith Meranvil. Deshawn was predeceased by his father, Reginald Berry; his grandmother, Geraldine Berry; his grandfather, Norman Barnum; as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Calling hours for all who wish to honor Deshawn will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 4th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A private funeral service for the family will be held on Friday, June 5th in the Frank Polke and Son Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd., Fairfield.
