Edward J. Laska, age 84 of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Maureen Beres Laska, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
Born in Bridgeport on June 22, 1941, son of the late Edward J. Laska Sr. and Marion Gonsowski Laska, Mr. Laska had been a lifelong Fairfield Town resident. He was a graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School, " Class of 1959 “ and received an Associate's Degree in Fire Technology from Norwalk State Technical College in 1983. After high school, Ed joined the Fairfield Fire Department and had a successful 35-year career, retiring as Lieutenant. Mr. Laska was a devout Catholic, serving St. Emery Church for over 50 years as a Lector, Usher as well as a willing volunteer for many years for various church events. He enjoyed the outdoors while hunting or spending time with Maureen at their Harrison, Maine home and their times together out on Crystal Lake.
He will be lovingly remembered as a “Top Shelf Uncle " to Alison Beres-Nork and her husband Jack Nork of Bethany, Susan Beres and her husband AJ Keirans of Shelton, Frank Beres and his wife Melanie Molineaux of Port Ewen NY, Kenneth Henry, Janice Adams, and to several grand nephews and nieces. Ed was predeceased by his sister Janice Henry, nephew Scot Beres, sister-in-law Audrey Beres, brother-in-law Frank Beres and his little best friend "Alice".
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 20 beginning at 9:15 am in the Frank Polke & Son Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd., Fairfield and at 10 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Rd., Fairfield with burial to follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Fairfield. Calling hours will be held at the Frank Polke & Son Funeral Home on Thursday from 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairfield Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation or the Fairfield Professional Firefighters Benevolent Fund.
The family would like to thank Visiting Angels, especially Paul, for providing much comfort and support over the past year.
