Florence Carabina Obituary

Florence Cipu Carabina, age 92 of Fairfield, loving and devoted wife of the late Christy Carabina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Born in New York City on October 17, 1931, daughter of the late Louis and Maria Cipu.

Florence grew up in New York City, graduating from the High School of Commerce.  She then moved to Bridgeport and then to Fairfield 65 years ago. Florence had worked for Bryant-Electric Company, before starting her family, and most recently at G. Fox/Filene's Department Store until her retirement.

She always put the needs and interests of her family before her own, as her family was the most important thing in her life. She loved cooking and baking for the holidays. She especially loved the times that she spent with her husband Christy in Florida and with her family on Cape Cod. Florence loved her pet Labrador Retrievers Priscilla, and most recently Samantha.

Florence had a remarkable memory. She was able to remember in great detail the smallest interactions she had going back to her childhood. She had a wealth of knowledge of her community, being able to talk about family relationships and connections, oftentimes with stories to go along with it. Florence was a faithful member of the St. Dimitrie Orthodox Church and member of the St Dimitrie Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed watching sports on TV with her family, following the Boston Red Sox, Celtics and the New England Patriots. Florence was an avid NASCAR fan, always cheering on her favorite driver Ryan Preece.

She is survived by her loving son, Matthew Carabina of Fairfield.  She is also survived by brother-in-law George Carabina and his wife Debra of Woodstock CT, sister-in-law Rita Carabina of North Grosvenordale CT , sister-in-law Julie Cipu of Branford CT, godson Tony Carabina of Bogata New Jersey and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband Christy, Florence was predeceased by her infant sons, Luke and John Carabina and most recently by her son Mark. She also was predeceased by her brother Nicholas Cipu and his wife Despa, brother George Cipu, sister Sofia Nastu and her husband Ray, and Nephew Robert Cipu.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 10th at 11:00 am directly at St. Dimitrie Orthodox Church, 504 Sport Hill Rd., Easton with the Rev. Father George M. Coca officiating.
