John Peter Hriczu, age 91, of Trumbull, beloved husband of Maria (Kusnyir) Hriczu, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025.
Born and raised in Pereny, Hungary, son of the late Istvan and Jolan Kozel Hriczu, John emigrated to the United States in 1956 and lived in Bridgeport for many years before moving to Trumbull 57 years ago. Mr. Hriczu was the retired owner-operator of the J & H Manufacturing Company. He and his wife Maria cherished their many trips to Hungary where they returned to visit relatives.
He was fond of outdoor activities including golf, gardening, boating, and fishing. He also enjoyed bowling, watching golf and tennis events on TV, and attending tennis tournaments in New Haven and golf tournaments in Cromwell. He also frequently went to Webster Bank Arena to watch the UConn women’s basketball team play in NCAA tournaments. He was a "Man of All Trades" and loved working around the house and helping others with their projects. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who was hard-working and a good provider for his family.
In addition to Maria, his dear wife of 68 years, he is survived by his son, John Hriczu of Stratford, a daughter, Mary Ann Meier of Trumbull, grandchildren Robert Meier and his wife Elizabeth, and Jessica Meier and companion Jeff Paquet. He leaves behind a sister Anna Kerekes as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Istvan, Jozsef, and Zoltan Hriczu, and a sister Ilona Feith.
All funeral services will be held privately in the care of the Frank Polke & Son Funeral Home.
