Judith Merrill

Judith Ann Merrill, age 81, of North Haven, beloved wife of Peter Merrill, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, May 27th. 

Daughter of the late Paul and Veronica (Horvath) Podany, Judy was born in Bridgeport before moving to Westport in 1966. She worked as a secretary for the Lakeview Cemetery Association as well as Merrill Excavating until her retirement. Judy was an avid boater, cruising about the Long Island Sound aboard the "Hey Jude" with her husband, Pete, and especially enjoyed her times at their mooring in Port Jefferson, NY with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. She was Past President of the East End Yacht Club Ladies Auxiliary and is also a Life Member. Judy and Pete also liked spending time with their friends on C Dock at Miamogue Yacht Club. She loved traveling with her husband and spending time at their home in Florida, and the special times spent on Girls' Trips with her daughter and best friend, Carol Calise. Judy was a devoted mother and Mimi, and her most treasured times were spent with her family.

In addition to her husband Peter, Judy is survived by her daughter, Sheila Vesciglio and her husband Bob of North Haven, grandchildren BJ Bottone and partner Austin, Jamie Vesciglio Newall and her husband Brian, Elizabeth Merrill and Brenden Merrill, as well as her great-grandchildren Avery, Casen and Brett. She was predeceased by her brother Paul E. Podany.

As were Judy's wishes, there will be no funeral services. Arrangements are in the care of the Frank Polke & Son Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
