Karl Koch, 67, of Ansonia, Connecticut, passed away on April 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 5, 1958, in Norwood, Massachusetts, Karl was the son of John and June Capozzi Koch. He was raised in Darien, Connecticut, and went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Coast Guard Reserve.
Karl dedicated much of his life to public service and his community. He was a longtime and devoted member of the Darien Volunteer Fire Department, serving in a variety of roles, including two years as Chief. His leadership, dedication, and camaraderie left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.
In addition to his service, Karl owned and operated Village Marine in Rowayton, Connecticut. He took pride in his work and valued the many relationships he built over the years. Karl enjoyed the times he spent on Long Island Sound aboard his boat "JAKK", he also belonged to the Past Time Athletic and Social Club. A strong advocate for boating safety, Karl was a licensed Captain and dedicated himself to teaching Connecticut boating safety classes, sharing his passion and knowledge with others.
Karl shared a loving marriage with his wife, Annamarie Koch, of 37 years, who survives him. Together, they built a life centered on family, motorcycle riding and companionship, especially with their beloved dog, Major.
In addition to his wife, Karl is survived by his children, Jenna (Michael) MacDermant and Kristopher (Jordan) Ridges; his cherished grandchildren, Jaycee and Lincoln; his sister, Cheryl; his nieces, Rebekah and Hunter; and his nephews, Jacob and Stephen. He was predeceased by his parents, John and June Koch.
Karl will be remembered for his gift of storytelling, his loyal friendships, and his love of the open water. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 8th from 2-5 pm at Frank Polke & Son Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield, Connecticut with a prayer service at 4:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Darien Fire Department or the DFD Ladies Auxiliary in Karl’s memory.
Karl’s legacy of service, dedication, and love for his family and community will never be forgotten.
