Maria Anna Breteau, age 74, of Derby passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, May 25, 2024, after a brief illness.
Born in Austria on March 21, 1950, daughter of the late Janos Hajdu and Katalin Fredrich. Maria lived in and enjoyed the Black Rock community for many years and most recently resided in Derby.
Maria took great pride in her work as a real estate paralegal and worked for Sherwood and Garlick until her retirement. Maria enjoyed traveling, painting, and gardening but mostly she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Maria was very proud of her Hungarian Heritage and recalled her time in Austria and Hungry with the fondest of memories. Maria was known for her kindness to others whom she would put before herself time and time again. More than anything she will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful and devoted mother and the best Nana to her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Adam Horvath of Derby, daughters Elizabeth Farinella and her husband Aristide, Christina Berrios and her husband Anthony all of Naugatuck and Victoria Cascarelli and her husband Jeffrey of Monroe. She leaves behind her precious grandchildren and sisters Elizabeth Horvath of Encino, CA and Suzanne Chakar and her husband Eli of Milford as well as several nieces and nephews.
Her absence is like the sky, spread over everything.
All services will be held privately.
