Nicholas Michael Pekar, Jr., age 76, of Stratford, beloved husband of Laureen Pekar passed away on Monday, October 6, 2025. He was a much loved father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, neighbor and friend.
Born in Bridgeport, Nicholas was the son of the late Nicholas M. Pekar Sr. and Albina Juracka Pekar. He was raised in Fairfield, where he lived for 34 years, before settling in Stratford, his home for the past 42 years.
A graduate of Andrew Warde High School, Class of 1967, he went on to earn an associate’s degree from Norwalk Community College, followed by a Bachelor of Science from the University of New Haven. Soon after, he achieved the designation of Certified Public Accountant.
In 1974, he founded his own accounting practice, which he faithfully operated for over 51 years until his passing. He credited his late brother-in-law, Roger Legare, for helping launch his practice by referring local entrepreneurs throughout Fairfield County. His clients were not just clients—they were family, friends, neighbors, and part of the greater fabric of his life’s work.
Nick had a love and passion for sports. From his early childhood he would take the train and watch the New York Mets play. Later he cheered on the UCONN Huskies to their many NCAA basketball championships. Closer to home he was the biggest fan of his childrens’ and grandchildrens’ sporting events.
Nick had a deep love of music, which he shared with his family — from introducing his children to jazz, to proudly attending his grandchildrens' musical performances over the years. He was also a proud fan of his nephew, professional musician, Karl Allweier.
Nick always enjoyed good food. One could find him surrounded by family and friends at many local restaurants, one of his favorites being Reggianos, or hosting gatherings complete with fireworks, caricature artists, and plenty of shrimp.
On the weekends, Nick could be found caring for his yard, which he passionately decorated for holidays. The kids on the street will always remember him for giving the BIG candy bars for Halloween.
With great faith as an anchor in his life, Nick was a longtime head usher for St. Emery Church of Fairfield, receiving the St. Augustine Award from the Diocese of Bridgeport in 2007 for his service.
Nick was a member of the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Earlier in his career, he was a member of the Fairfield Jaycees, Fairfield Elks and St. Emery’s Holy Name Society.
In addition to Laureen Pekar, his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, he is survived by their four children: Matthew Pekar (Domenica) of Branford; Kara-Lynn Flockhart (John) of Stratford; Nicholas Michael Pekar III (Heather Pierce) of Newtown; and Kris-Andra Houchins of Springfield, VA. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Alicia, Joseph, Anna, Seth, Lily, Elaina, and Natalie; as well as many beloved family and loyal friends who brought joy to his life.
He was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Albina Pekar, his sister Penelope and her husband, Werner Allweier, his son-in-law, Michael Houchins and his niece Dana McPadden.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 13, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Emery Church, 838 King’s Highway, Fairfield. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, Stratford.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 12, from 3:00–7:00 p.m. at Frank Polke and Son Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Rd., Fairfield.
