Vasile Geavela

Vasile Geavela, age 88 of Oxford, beloved husband of Elka Welkes Geavela, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2025.

Vasile was born and raised in Romania, son of the late Atanase and Sophia Nastu Geavela and came to the United States in 1969 and has lived in Oxford for 25 years. He had worked as a self employed contractor until his retirement. Vasile enjoyed his cars, playing bingo, horse racing and the occasional trip to the casino.

In addition to his loving wife Elka, survivors include his son George Geavela, his sisters, Florica Pitu and Doina Blacioti of Romania and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Nelu Geavela and Hanalambre Geavela. 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 1st at 11 am in the Holy Brancoveanu Martyrs Romanian Orthodox Church, 183 Howe Ave. in Shelton with burial to follow in St. John's Cemetery in Monroe. Family and friends may call at the Church from 10 am until the time of service.
